Trail
Map
Easily accessible,
Mundy Park is bordered by Mariner Way, Como Lake Ave and Austin
Ave in Coquitlam. This 442-acre park has 13 km of well-groomed trails
in total. Your road shoes will be fine on these wide, well-marked,
flat trails.
Dogs are allowed off leash till 10 a.m. and you'll see lots of them.
There's even a soccer field where the dogs can run about. Dogs are
not permitted near Lost Lake or Mundy Lake.
Here's a 4 km route but you can double the route or take any of
the well-marked trails. The Perimeter Trail is 4 km. You might want
to print the map and create your own route.
Start at the Chilko/Mariner Way entrance by Lost Lake, keep to the
right and you'll find the Perimeter Trail. Turn right and follow
Perimeter till you reach the Waterline Trail. Head left on Waterline
and follow it 1.3 km till you reach the Perimeter Trail again. Turn
right and follow Perimeter past the sports fields, to the intersection
of Interlaken Trail. Turn right on Interlaken Trail and you'll find
Heart Attack Hill (here's my marathon chant, "You call that
a hill. That's no hill; we're from North Van!"), proceed about
1 km back to the Chilko entrance. Start again on another loop if
you want more distance.
After your run, there's a Starbucks on Como Lake Ave in the plaza..
How to Get
There
From North
Van, take the Second Narrows Bridge and the Hastings Exit. Take
Hastings Street East till you reach the fork and veer right on Hastings.
This becomes Burnaby Mtn Pkwy; follow to Gaglardi. Right on Gaglardi
till you see a sign for the Broadway exit on the left. Take the
Broadway exit; in a few blacks this becomes Como Lake Ave. Go straight
till you reach Mariner Way. Turn right on Mariner and right on Chilko
just under the hydro lines where there's parking and a portajohn.
From Vancouver
take Lougheed Highway to Austin Road to Mariner Way, turn left on
Mariner till you reach Chilko, left on Chilko to the parking area.
From other locations, take Highway #1 to the Coquitlam turnoff,
follow Lougheed northeast to United, right on Mariner to Chilko,
left on Chilko to the parking area.
