Globe
and Mail Article - Winter runs to world youth bronze
For those of
you who don't know, 16yr old Chris Winter, an employee at North
Shore Athletics and an absolutely incredible guy, just won the bronze
medal at the World Youth Games. This is the world championships
of track for youth under 18. In the 2000m steeplechase, Chris ran
the performance of his life and won a bronze medal against one of
the strongest fields ever assembled.
In fifteen years
of running I have never witnessed anything more exciting than watching
Chris sprint past the field with 100m to go to claim a medal. The
look on his face when he realised what he had just done was so amazing.
He smashed the Canadian Juvenile record by 7 seconds, set an 8 second
personal PB, and became the first Canadian to win a medal in the
steeplechase in over 17years. And he looked fantastic doing it!
Not only is
he an amazing runner with a very bright future, but he is the nicest
guy you will ever meet, and for that reason alone, he has become
my personal hero!
Way to go Chris!
